These digital pigment prints are made on an Iris printer. This process produces state of
the art archival prints. The Iris sprays 4,000,000 droplets of ink per second at a speed
of 85 miles per hour toward a large drum rotating at 12 feet per second. The droplets
are given an electrical charge to determine which reach the paper and which are deflected.
This produces a continuous tone with a resolution of 1800 dots per inch. Hahnemuhle
paper from Germany and Lyson inks (water based dyes) are used. The research on the
paper and pigment indicates that if the color prints were exposed to 450 lux light for 12
hours each day it would take 35 – 45 years before noticeable fading would occur. There is
no UV protection needed for framing.
